Trump rejects Iran’s proposal to reopen Strait of Hormuz

U.S. President Donald Trump has turned down Iran’s latest offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said Tehran was seeking a deal because “the money isn’t coming in” as a result of an American naval blockade.

The Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime chokepoint for global oil supplies, remains closed to civilian vessels under the current U.S. naval restrictions.

Iran’s proposal, which has not been detailed publicly, was presented as an attempt to alleviate economic pressure on the country.

Trump’s rejection maintains the existing stance of the United States, which has continued to enforce the blockade amid ongoing tensions.
