An additional ambulance will run seven days a week on the 10 pm‑10 am shift in Kilrush and Ennistymon, the National Ambulance Service (NAS) confirmed.
NAS General Manager for Area Operations, Niall Murray, told an HSE West Forum meeting in Limerick on Tuesday that the new resource responds to rising evening demand in the Mid‑West.
The announcement follows a question from Councillor Rita McInerney, who asked for an update on the ambulance posts announced in March. Murray said recruitment is progressing from University of Limerick interns, college graduates and the national transfer panel, and that exact staffing numbers will be known once the rosters go live.
New rosters for Ennis and Ennistymon are expected to start in mid‑October, while Kilrush rosters are in the final stages of discussion. The intermediate care service will also gain an extra resource five days a week from Ennis and two additional resources two days a week.
The March 2026 investment includes 12 extra paramedic posts for County Clare and six new Intermediate Care Service posts in Ennis. NAS acknowledges a challenging recruitment environment and says full implementation will be phased as staff become available.
