Cork man denied bail after pleading guilty to handling stolen property

Albert O’Driscoll, 39, of no fixed address, was refused bail by Judge David Waters and remanded in custody until 6 October.

The Cork man was arrested by Garda Shane Masters and charged with five counts of handling stolen property relating to the early hours of Tuesday on Magazine Road, Cork.

Defence solicitor Joseph Cuddigan said his client’s primary concern in seeking bail was to find a home for his dog, stating that O’Driscoll “is anxious to secure accommodation … for the dog, because he appreciates that with all of the stolen property he is facing a jail sentence.”

O’Driscoll is expected to plead guilty to the five new charges and to ten earlier offences, including burglary, theft, personal drug possession and public order offences.

During the bail hearing, Garda Daniel O’Callaghan objected to release, and Judge Waters noted the cumulative nature of the charges before ordering remand.

The stolen items alleged to be in O’Driscoll’s possession included an Apple MacBook laptop, an Osprey wallet containing two bank cards, a public service card and a driving licence.
