Zuckerberg and Chan donate €150,000 to three Waterford GAA clubs

Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have contributed €150,000 to three local GAA clubs near their newly‑purchased Strancally Castle in Waterford.

The donation will be split equally, with each of Shamrocks GAA (Knockanore), Tallow GAA (Tallow) and Lismore GAA (Lismore) receiving €50,000, paid in two instalments of €25,000 per year over the next two years.

Shamrocks GAA, which draws players from the parishes of Knockanore, Glendine and Kilwatermoy, plans to use its share to upgrade dressing rooms. Tallow GAA intends to fund a 100‑seat spectator stand and tarmacking of its community walkway. Lismore GAA will apply its portion to projects such as floodlighting, new pitch‑side fencing and a community walkway.

The couple bought the 440‑acre Strancally Castle estate in August, marking their first Irish philanthropic contribution since the purchase. In a statement they said the GAA “is at the heart of communities across Ireland” and they are “proud to support these local clubs and the important role they play.”

Club officials welcomed the gift, describing it as the largest single donation in Tallow GAA’s 139‑year history and a significant boost for fundraising and facility development across all three clubs.
