Broncos beat Rams 30-26 after controversial pass‑interference call

Denver secured a 30‑26 victory over Los Angeles on Sunday night after a disputed defensive pass‑interference penalty on Rams defensive back Josh Wallace in the final minute.

Pat Bryant, the Broncos defensive back who was called for the interference, admitted he “sold it just a little bit” after the play, which negated what would have been Wallace’s second interception of the game.

Replays showed Bryant and Wallace grappling as they moved toward the sideline on third‑and‑6 with 1:15 remaining. Bryant claimed Wallace’s shove knocked him off balance, prompting him to fall and throw his head back, actions that officials deemed interference.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton said the incident was “natural reaction” and not a rehearsed tactic, noting that such theatrics are more common in soccer and the NBA than in the NFL.

The penalty gave Denver a first down at the 7‑yard line, and three plays later Bo Nix reached over the line for a touchdown that put the Broncos ahead. The Rams, who accrued 13 penalties compared with Denver’s five, could not recover, and a late interception by safety Talanoa Hufanga sealed the win.

Rams coach Sean McVay declined to comment on the call, stating “It doesn’t really matter. It is what it is.”
