Galway in advanced talks with Éamonn Fitzmaurice for senior football manager role

Galway GAA are in advanced discussions with former Kerry senior football manager Éamonn Fitzmaurice about appointing him as the county’s senior football manager for the 2027 season.

Fitzmaurice, who stepped down as Kerry manager in 2018, has not held an inter‑county managerial post since, but recent meetings with Galway chairman Paul Bellew have positioned him as the leading candidate to replace Pádraic Joyce, who left the role earlier this month.

The 49‑year‑old, a native of Finuge, led Kerry to an All‑Ireland title in 2014 and oversaw the team for six seasons before resigning after the 2018 championship. Since then he has achieved success at club and school level, guiding Finuge to a Kerry JFC title and leading PS Chorcha Dhuibhne to a Hogan Cup win in 2014, as well as steering Fossa to an All‑Ireland Club JFC title.

Galway chiefs view Fitzmaurice as the preferred choice to drive the county toward its first Sam Maguire Cup in 26 years, with the appointment contingent on his willingness to balance the role alongside his duties as a school principal.
