Gardaí investigate four violent incidents in Dublin’s south‑west area this week

Gardaí are investigating four separate violent incidents that occurred within a small radius of Dublin’s south‑west city area over four days this week.

Series of attacks

The first incident took place on Monday night around 10 pm on Jamestown Road, Inchicore, when a masked man on an e‑scooter opened fire at a van occupied by a father and son. No injuries were reported.

In the early hours of Wednesday, shortly after midnight, shots were fired outside an apartment complex on Naas Road, a short walk from the Monday shooting. Gardaí from Sundrive Road, Crumlin, responded and confirmed no one was injured and only minor property damage.

Later on Wednesday, a car is reported to have driven across Naas Road into Bluebell, attempting to run over a group of young people outside a row of shops. Local sources suspect the incident may be linked to the earlier gun attacks, though no connection has been established.

On Thursday at about 10 pm, a petrol‑bomb attack caused fire damage to the wall of a house in Crumlin, adjoining Walkinstown. It is unclear whether this arson is related to the previous incidents.

Investigators note possible links to the accidental fatal shooting of Joshua Itseli, 22, in Drimnagh in May 2024, and to drug dealing along Luas stops in the area. Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan called for urgent action from Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan, describing the attacks as a threat to community safety.
