Cork woman remanded in custody over €210,000 heroin seizure

A 43‑year‑old woman from Upper Convent Road, Blackrock, Cork, has been remanded in custody until 22 October on charges of possessing 1.5 kg of diamorphine valued at €210,000 and money‑laundering €12,980 in cash.

Detective Garda James Byrd said the heroin was seized on Wednesday evening in the Blackrock area. Detective Garda Linda O’Keeffe testified that the cash was found concealed under clothes in a laundry basket during a search of the woman’s home.

Detective Garda O’Keeffe objected to bail, stating the accused has a substantial drug debt and is likely to continue drug activities. The accused, Sandra Byrne, has consented to a four‑week remand while directions are sought from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Solicitor Diane Hallahan noted that the seized material has yet to be forensically examined, although Garda O’Keeffe said the appearance and packaging indicated it was diamorphine.
