Man charged with brothel keeping and trafficking appears in Letterkenny court

A 40‑year‑old man accused of operating two brothels in Letterkenny appeared before Judge Ciarán Liddy at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court today.

Francisc Mandrucz, a Romanian national residing at Long Lane, Letterkenny, was charged with brothel keeping, organising prostitution, human trafficking and money laundering. The charges relate to alleged activities at two premises between December 2017 and August 2025, including the trafficking of a woman from October 2021 to July 2022 and two counts of money laundering involving €15,790 and €5,980.

Detective Sergeant Gerry Farry and Detective Garda Colin Talbot of the Donegal division’s detective branch brought Mandrucz to court after a long‑running investigation. Gardaí conducted seven welfare checks at apartments owned by the accused, each time finding male and female prostitutes on the premises.

Detective Sergeant Farry objected to bail, describing Mandrucz as a flight risk and asserting that An Garda Síochána believed he would continue the alleged offences. The judge noted the objection but granted bail on a €100 bond, imposing conditions that include surrendering his passport, signing in three times a week at Letterkenny Garda Station, remaining contactable 24‑hours a day, residing at a specified address and refraining from renting apartments to sex workers.

Mandrucz has no previous convictions or bench warrants, and the court affirmed his entitlement to be presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
