President Donald Trump has been criticised for appearing in television advertisements that are paid for by the US government.

The White House maintains that the spots are public service announcements rather than political publicity or propaganda.

BBC Verify journalist Jake Horton reviewed the advertisements and consulted legal experts to assess whether the funding breaches any regulations.

The piece was produced by Krystal Campos with graphics by Sally Nicholls.
