US Attorney General Todd Blanche defended the Department of Justice’s pre‑emptive lawsuit to block the certification of Alaska’s US Senate results during an interview on CNN’s State of the Union.

Blanche described a question from the TV host about the suit as “crazy”, rejecting suggestions that the Department’s action was excessive. The lawsuit, described by the DOJ as unprecedented, argues that the presence of two candidates named Dan Sullivan on the Alaska ballot could cause “voter confusion”.

The legal move aims to prevent certification if the Republican incumbent were to lose the election. In response to queries about the Department’s involvement, former President Donald Trump told reporters, “I’m the one that said do it”.

The interview highlighted tensions between the Justice Department and media commentary, with Blanche emphasizing the need to safeguard the electoral process in Alaska.
