Rhys Owens eyes title shot after eight‑round win in Letterkenny
Enniskillen‑born boxer Rhys Owens said he is now looking for a title opportunity after securing an eight‑round points…

Aodhan Byrne has announced his intention to stage a bout in Kildare following his 3‑0 points victory over Benito Sanchez Garcia at the Rumble In The Hills 3 card in Letterkenny.
The Kilcullen boxing club ace, known as “The Entertainer”, moved to 3‑0 with a 60‑54 points win and said he was “swarmed” as he left the ring, prompting calls for increased security at future events.
Byrne, whose mother is from Donegal, highlighted the importance of a strong fan base, stating that “nobody is making it to the top without a fan base” and that he aims to bring large crowds to his fights.
Having secured an Irish senior title last November and previously fighting in Donegal and Leopardstown, Byrne now works in Niall Barrett’s Unit 3 stable and is seeking a home fight in Kildare. He estimates that a Kildare event could draw 300‑400 tickets, compared with 100 tickets in Donegal, and describes himself as a “promoter’s dream”.
Byrne also reflected on his performance against Garcia, noting moments of maturity and a strategic approach over six rounds, and expressed confidence in his ability to both entertain and box effectively.
