Councillor urges credit for fully paid housing scheme contributions

Independent councillor John O’Donoghue has called for housing schemes that have made fully paid development contributions to Limerick City and County Council over the past ten years to have those contributions recognised when applying for local or community improvement schemes.

At the Adare/Rathkeale area meeting this month, the council responded that development contributions are levied under Section 48 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 and are intended to fund public infrastructure such as roads, transport, drainage and community facilities.

The council explained that these charges are applied through its Development Contribution Scheme and clarified that payment of the development charge does not create an entitlement to preference under any other scheme.
