Trustyourinstinct entered in Melbourne Cup for JP McManus

Irish owner JP McManus has entered his horse Trustyourinstinct in the Melbourne Cup, the A$10 million (€9 million) race at Flemington Racecourse on Tuesday morning.

Trustyourinstinct, bred by McManus’s wife Noreen of Martinstown Stud, is by the stallion Churchill out of the dam Gussy Goose. The horse is priced as the second favourite at 7/1 and is one of seven entries trained by Kilkenny trainer Joseph O’Brien.

Three‑time World Jockey of the Year James McDonald from New Zealand will ride the Irish‑owned runner. The Melbourne Cup, first run in 1861, features a winner’s prize of $4.5 million and a field of 24 horses.

Last year McManus’s entry, Goodie Two Shoes, trained by O’Brien, finished runner‑up at 40/1 odds, marking his first participation in the event.
