Trump serves as honorary chairman at Presidents Cup in Medinah

Former US President Donald Trump is attending the Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club in Illinois as honorary chairman, marking his second appearance at the event.

Trump was present for the opening tee‑off of the 12 matches on Sunday, expected to stay until the final match tees off at 1:02 p.m. local time. The first tee is known for its lively atmosphere, with a flag‑waving crowd and music.

The US team, which has only trailed four times in the competition’s 32‑year history, is currently behind the International side. Trump arrived after a flight that passed over the course, noting the noise of Air Force One above the usual commercial traffic.

He told reporters that being named chairman was “an honour” and described the Presidents Cup as “one of the biggest events in golf”. The role of honorary chairman is traditionally offered to the head of state of the host nation.

Trump’s first visit to the Presidents Cup was in 2017 at Liberty National, where he posed with the US players during the trophy presentation. Earlier in the year he played at the Cadillac Championship at his Trump National Doral in Florida, attended the LIV Golf event at Trump National Bedminster in New Jersey, and visited the Irish Open at his Doonbeg course.
