The comment was made public by former US senator David Perdue, who told Fox News on Sunday that Trump “continues to say, hey, we sell arms to other people around the world. He actually asked President Xi, would he like to buy some at one point.”

The alleged offer follows remarks by a Taiwanese minister who described the “severe” military threat posed by Beijing to the self‑ruled island, highlighting ongoing tensions in the region.

The US ambassador to China confirmed Perdue’s account on Sunday, noting that the discussion took place while Trump was hosting Xi Jinping during a recent visit.
