Trump announces $15bn Iowa steel plant, touts it as US biggest

President Donald Trump announced plans for a $15 billion steel plant in Iowa, describing it as the largest steel facility in American history.

Speaking from the Oval Office on Monday, Trump said the plant will use advanced steelmaking technology to produce “some of the highest quality, most affordable steel anywhere in the world.”

The project, to be built by an Indian‑owned company, is slated to begin construction in 2030 and is being promoted as a key jobs message for Republicans ahead of the upcoming mid‑term elections, with Iowa seen as a pivotal state for control of the Senate.

Trump was accompanied by Iowa’s senior Republican representatives during the announcement.
