Plans submitted to expand The Savoy Hotel and redevelop Bedford Row

Planning permission has been submitted to Limerick City and County Council to expand The Savoy Hotel by adding up to 28 new bedrooms.

Kirkland Investments Ltd proposes to amalgamate several vacant retail units on Henry Street and Bedford Row, including the former Laura Ashley store (No 8 Henry Street) and Techstar (No 9 Henry Street), converting ground‑floor and mezzanine space to a licensed café/restaurant with sit‑down and takeaway service and ancillary retail.

The former Dealz discount store (No 7 Bedford Row/Henry Street) would be repurposed for multi‑media activities, a bar area and meeting rooms on the basement and ground levels, with a new link to the hotel lobby.

Additional hotel rooms would be created by incorporating the first floors of the former Laura Ashley, Techstar and Dealz premises, as well as the former Central Shoes, Noels Menswear and Schuh shop spaces.

The proposal includes a hotel canopy extending across the three stores and an expanded winter garden adjoining the hotel bar. Parking would rely on the nearby Q‑Park Harvey’s Quay multi‑storey car park with 634 spaces.

Public submissions are accepted until 28 October, with the council due to decide by 18 November. If approved, the development could generate full‑ and part‑time jobs in the city centre.
