Trump and Xi conclude US summit without AI pause agreement

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping ended their three‑day Washington summit on Friday without reaching a major agreement to pause their nations’ artificial intelligence (AI) arms race.

The state visit, which highlighted personal rapport and pageantry, focused on discussions of the wars in Iran and Ukraine, the status of Taiwan, and a modest two‑month extension of an existing trade truce.

Critics said the leaders missed an opportunity to secure substantive measures on AI, as the summit produced no significant commitments to curb the development of AI weaponry.
