In Limerick City 1,970 fines were issued for illegal parking on footpaths last year, while just four fines were issued for dog fouling.
Vision Ireland’s Clear Our Paths campaign highlighted the disparity, noting that across the Republic a total of 21,352 footpath‑parking fines were issued compared with only 44 dog‑fouling fines.
The data shows that Dublin City Council issued the highest number of footpath‑parking fines nationwide, with 4,833 penalties, whereas County Kerry recorded the most dog‑fouling fines at 12.
Vision Ireland uses the figures to raise awareness of obstacles that people with vision impairments encounter on public pathways.
