Giant pandas travel from Chengdu to Atlanta zoo after Xi‑Trump summit

Two giant pandas left Chengdu in south‑western China early on Sunday for their new home at the zoo in Atlanta, Georgia.

The move follows an agreement between the Chinese and United States governments announced during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s three‑day summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C.

During the state visit, President Xi said the pandas would arrive in Atlanta in the coming days, making the loan one of the few concrete outcomes of the talks, which otherwise produced goodwill statements but no resolution of longstanding bilateral issues.
