Galway GAA board backs Éamonn Fitzmaurice as new football manager

Galway GAA chiefs have formally recommended former Kerry manager Éamonn Fitzmaurice to take charge of the senior football team on a three‑year term.

Chairman Paul Bellew announced at a board meeting in Galway on Wednesday that the final management and backroom team will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Fitzmaurice, who led Kerry to an All‑Ireland title in 2014 and secured six successive Munster championships, stepped down from inter‑county management in 2018. He has since enjoyed success at schools and club level.

Bellew said the county is “delighted to appoint a manager of Éamonn’s calibre” and praised his record as both player and manager, noting his recent role on the Football Rules Committee.

Galway have not won a senior football All‑Ireland since 2001, and the appointment aims to revive hopes for a 2027 title.
