€12.5 million upgrade to Killybegs water treatment plant completed

A €12.5 million upgrade of the Killybegs Water Treatment Plant was officially completed on Friday.

The works, attended by Minister of State Charlie McConalogue, are expected to give more than 4,000 homes and businesses in Killybegs and surrounding areas a more stable water supply.

McConalogue said the investment “will provide confidence and certainty for local families” and highlighted its importance for Ireland’s largest fishing port, noting that reliable water infrastructure is essential for thriving communities and successful businesses.

The project forms part of a series of large‑scale investments by Uisce Éireann to improve water and sewerage services across Donegal, following the €50 million Ramelton, Milford and Rathmullan scheme opened in June and other recent upgrades in Kilmacrennan and Buncrana.

He commended Uisce Éireann, Donegal County Council and all parties involved for delivering the critical projects that support housing growth and the local economy.
