Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the Government is “very, very concerned” about the recent tensions surrounding the Drumcree parade dispute.

Speaking to reporters in Cork, Martin called for everyone to “stand back and to mediate an outcome … in the best interests of the people of the area and the people of Northern Ireland”. He praised the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and chief constable Jon Boutcher for prioritising safety over the past 48 hours.

Martin warned against a return to the historic divisions and trauma on Garvaghy Road and urged Sinn Féin and others to “dial back” and engage in “sensible, community‑based” dialogue, noting the significant improvements in community relations achieved by local resident groups over recent decades.

He stressed that recent events must not undermine the Stormont executive, adding that actions taken should serve the interests of all people on the island of Ireland.

When asked about social‑media claims that Ireland is antisemitic, Martin denied the allegation, reaffirming Ireland’s respect for its Jewish community and its balanced stance on the Israel‑Palestine conflict.
