The former Old Head of Kinsale National School, a stone‑built schoolhouse from the 1880s, has been put on the open market with an asking price of just under €500,000.
Located on a 0.26‑acre site off the N604 road beside Garrylucas (White Strand) beach, the property includes the original school building and a former schoolmaster’s residence fronting the road, with a public car park providing pedestrian access to the beach.
According to the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage, the school was constructed under the 1831 “Stanley Letter” for non‑denominational national schools and features brick and rubble stone walls, a carved stone plaque and separate entrances for boys and girls. The building, originally costing £500, was extended over the years and now offers over 2,800 sq ft of floor area, though recent planning permission reduces this to 2,600 sq ft.
Planning permission, approved by Cork County Council in September 2026, allows architect‑driven alterations, including a zinc‑clad dormer bedroom with a glazed balcony offering sea views. The design is by Cork architect Louise Sliney.
Trevor O’Sullivan of Lisney Sotheby’s International Realty reports strong interest from overseas and domestic buyers, noting the proximity to the Old Head of Kinsale Golf Course and the long, sandy beach.
