The US Justice Department’s grand jury in Washington has rejected prosecutors’ request to indict former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson.

Hutchinson, who gave dramatic testimony to a House committee investigating the 6 January 2021 Capitol insurrection and implicated former President Donald Trump, will not face charges, two sources familiar with the matter told the Associated Press.

The decision marks another setback for the Justice Department’s attempts to bring criminal proceedings against individuals it views as adversaries of the former Republican president.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorised to discuss the case publicly, confirmed that the grand jury declined to return an indictment.
