41‑year‑old Farid Fawzi of Coneybeg, Rathpeacon, County Cork, appeared at Cork District Court charged with possession of cocaine for sale and money‑laundering.

The Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau seized cocaine valued at €140,000 and more than €25,000 in cash outside Killeens, Cork City, on 2 June. Detective Garda Gavin Curran alleges Fawzi possessed the drugs and €25,950 in cash, knowing or being reckless as to whether it was the proceeds of criminal conduct.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed a trial by indictment at the Cork Circuit Criminal Court and has consented to a signed plea of guilty being entered at the district court for sentencing at the circuit court, if that occurs.

Defence solicitor Stephen Cotter requested a long adjournment to take instructions in what he described as a complex matter. Judge David Waters adjourned the case until 3 December to allow the defence time to decide its approach.
