A 48‑year‑old man was convicted of driving without insurance in Ballyshannon but was spared a driving disqualification.

Roman Chukov, of Atlantic Point Apartments, Bundoran, appeared before Ballyshannon District Court on a charge relating to an incident on 7 July 2025.

Garda Mark Geraghty stopped a grey BMW 320D at Coolcholly, Ballyshannon at 3 pm after the vehicle’s manner of driving raised suspicion at a roundabout. The Gardaí requested insurance documentation, which Chukov failed to produce. Under section 41 of the Road Traffic Act the car was seized and Chukov admitted he had no insurance.

Garda Sergeant Maurice Doyle noted that Chukov had no previous convictions. In court, Chukov told Judge Éiteáin Cunningham that his family lives locally and he needs his licence for work.

Judge Cunningham convicted Chukov, imposed a €250 fine payable within four months, and warned that a repeat offence would result in a four‑year driving disqualification.
