ILCU President and CEO Visit Askeaton Office of Cois Sionna Desmond CU

Brendan Jenkins, President of the Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU), and CEO David Malone visited Cois Sionna Desmond Credit Union’s Askeaton office on Tuesday 15 September 2026.

Chair Patrick Dooley welcomed the senior ILCU representatives, who met staff members and learned about the credit union’s operations following its merger with Unity Credit Union in May 2026.

Later that evening the visitors attended a meeting with the Board of Directors, discussing the future development of the credit union movement and the opportunities ahead for the sector.

Since the merger, Cois Sionna Desmond Credit Union now serves about 59,000 members from 15 offices across Limerick City, County Limerick and North Kerry, making it one of the largest credit unions in Ireland.

A key topic was the Credit Union Sector Strategy Project, launched in April 2026 and backed by the Department of Finance, which aims to create a shared vision for sustainable growth across the sector.

The visit gave the Board, management and staff a chance to engage directly with ILCU leadership on the challenges and opportunities as credit unions adapt to members’ changing needs.
