Cork shop owner calls for more Garda patrols after woman urinates in store

A Cork city‑centre business has urged An Garda Síochána to increase patrols after a public‑order incident in which a visibly intoxicated woman urinated on the shop floor.

House of Nails owner Aga Deryng said she and her staff “no longer feel safe working in Cork city centre”. The incident occurred on Thursday evening when the woman asked to use the shop’s bathroom, which is for customers only. After being denied access, she stripped and urinated in the middle of the floor in front of staff and clients.

A client called Anglesea Street Garda Station, but no officers arrived and there was no follow‑up the next day. Deryng later visited the station to make a statement.

Deryng noted this was not an isolated event; a previous incident involved someone defecating in the shop corridor, and staff have also been attacked by individuals from nearby Bishop Lucey Park. She highlighted ongoing anti‑social behaviour in the park, despite a €7 million revamp aimed at reducing such issues.

Sinn Féin TD Thomas Gould echoed concerns, describing an “epidemic of drug taking” in the area and calling for greater Garda presence.
