Young Irish women discuss rising loneliness on Lunchtime Live

Claíné Cassidy’s TikTok monologue about social isolation sparked a discussion on Newstalk’s Lunchtime Live about loneliness among young Irish women.

During the programme, Cassidy recalled watching a group of women on a coffee date and realizing she had not shared such an outing with a friend for a long time. Listener Clodagh agreed, saying she was “not surprised at all” and noting that women in their early to mid‑20s often find it hard to meet new people unless they have an established school or GAA network.

Clodagh said the viral video could encourage others to speak openly about their feelings, adding that honesty can attract like‑minded individuals and lead to new friendships.

Having moved abroad two years ago, Clodagh experienced isolation and, upon returning to Trim in County Meath, recognised a broader need for social outlets for women. She subsequently founded a women’s social group in Trim, open to all ages, offering a “judgement‑free space” for socialising.
