Loredana Morosanu, also known as Loredana Simion, was found dead in suspicious circumstances in Finglas, Dublin, on Monday morning.

Gardaí responded to a report of an incident at Melville Terrace shortly after 4.30 am and discovered her body. A man known to Ms Morosanu was arrested at about 11 am and remained in Garda custody later that afternoon.

Ms Morosanu had posted a photo on one of her Facebook accounts at around 11.30 pm on Sunday, showing blood on her hooded top and a visible injury to her face. The post was made only hours before she was found.

Background and reactions

Originally from Romania, she was engaged earlier this year and worked in a Dublin pharmacy, having lived in Ireland for several years. She is the 12th woman to die violently in Ireland in 2024, compared with seven in the whole of 2023.

Women’s Aid expressed sorrow, noting that Ms Morosanu was killed in her own home and that a man known to her has been arrested. The National Women’s Council called for urgent Government action to tackle violence against women, while Offaly Domestic Violence Support Services highlighted the need for sustained action and accountability.

An autopsy was scheduled to take place on the day of the report.
