Second investigation launched after dirty water discharge at Donegal wind farm

A second investigation has been opened into an incident at the Drumnahough Wind Farm in County Donegal.

The wind farm, a €120 million project being built by SSE and FuturEnergy Ireland, began construction earlier this year. It is located about 13 km outside Letterkenny and will host 12 turbines of 58 MW capacity, together with associated roads and substations.

Last week an initial probe was started after a landslide breached a rock berm that was holding back stripped peat on the site. The latest incident involved a separate discharge of dirty water into a watercourse that feeds the Elatagh River.

A spokesperson for the Loughs Agency confirmed that the discharge has been contained and that fishery officers collected water samples for analysis. The agency said no water‑quality issues have been identified and that it will continue to monitor downstream watercourses while liaising with the wind‑farm company on containment measures.
