Mike Boynton has been confirmed as the permanent head coach of the Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball team, signing a two‑year contract after serving as interim following Dusty May’s departure.

Boynton spent the previous two seasons as an assistant on May’s staff and previously led Oklahoma State for seven seasons, achieving a 119‑109 record and one NCAA Tournament appearance before being dismissed after a 12‑20 season in 2023‑24.

During Big Ten media day Boynton said his time working alongside May was “a sabbatical” that taught him how to run a high‑functioning organisation, identify talent and delegate responsibilities.

The move follows a busy off‑season reshuffle across college basketball, with notable appointments at Kansas State, North Carolina State, and the University of North Carolina, among others.

Boynton’s appointment marks the latest significant change after Michigan captured the NCAA championship under May.
