Over 1,500 motorists caught speeding in Bank Holiday road policing operation
Gardaí have recorded more than 1,500 speed‑limit offences during the first two days of the October Bank Holiday…

A man in his 30s from Donegal has been remanded in custody after being charged with 14 alleged breaches of a protection order within two days of its issuance.
The individual was brought before Ballyshannon District Court by Gardai on Thursday at 7.40 pm, arrested under section 35 of the Domestic Violence Act for an offence contrary to section 33 of the same Act. He made no reply when cautioned and was taken to a Garda station in Donegal, where he was formally charged with the 14 offences.
All alleged offences relate to breaches of a protection order granted by a District Court in Donegal, each contravening section 33(1) of the Domestic Violence Act 2018. The man’s solicitor was absent from the hearing.
Sergeant Maurice Doyle, the court presenter, advised that the State would oppose bail after the defendant inquired about offering a cash bond. The matter was briefly adjourned; when recalled, the man confirmed he was not applying for bail at that time but would seek bail at a sitting of Letterkenny District Court next week.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham ordered the man to remain in custody until his appearance before Letterkenny District Court.
