US President Donald Trump has conceded that the Democrats performed well in the recent mid‑term elections, which saw the party take control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump criticised Texas Governor Greg Abbott, blaming his loss to Democrat Gina Hinojosa on Abbott becoming a “RINO” – a Republican in Name Only – in the last six months. Trump added that, had he been on the ballot, the Republicans “would have won IN A LANDSLIDE”.

Speaking to The New York Times, Trump said he was “absolutely willing to accept” the election results and looked forward to working with the Democrats. In a separate interview with Fox News, he described himself as “a little surprised” by the outcome, noting that “the Democrats did a good job, they fought hard”. He warned that the new Congress would send “insane” legislation to his desk, which he would veto, and suggested that after a few vetoes the parties would negotiate to get legislation passed.

Trump also linked the Republican defeat to the Iran conflict and rising fuel prices, saying voters were not prepared for the short‑term cost of higher gasoline prices despite supporting his stance on Iran.

He hinted at a future role as a political pundit, promising analysis of why candidates won or lost, and criticised Fox News for focusing too much on the Democrats.
