Tir Conaill Football Club has deepened its ties with Donegal after founder Darren O’Donnell met Donegal County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Gary Doherty and Diaspora Officer Eoin Leonard in Glasgow, an event attended by President of Ireland Catherine Connolly.
The follow‑up meeting focused on the club’s growth, its work with children and families in Glasgow, and the proposed Pearse Park development – a multi‑sport community facility intended to host soccer, Gaelic football and other Gaelic games.
Darren O’Donnell, who serves on the founding board of the Pearse Park project, said the initiative could create a shared space for sport and community activity and highlighted the involvement of partners such as the Department of Foreign Affairs, the GAA, the Scottish FA and sportscotland.
He also noted the close relationship between Tir Conaill FC and Tir Conaill Harps GAA in Glasgow, both organisations sharing Donegal roots while operating in different codes.
Cllr Doherty welcomed the ambition of the club and the Pearse Park vision, describing the projects as capable of strengthening community bonds and celebrating shared heritage. Discussions also covered a potential Memorandum of Understanding between Donegal County Council and Glasgow City Council to foster links in sport, culture, education, business, tourism and diaspora engagement.
