Emergency services in Donegal are preparing for a busy Halloween night, with Gardaí issuing extensive safety advice and planning high‑visibility patrols, especially in the county’s east.
Garda Gráinne Doherty warned that illegal fireworks cause distress to older people, pets and families, and can lead to severe burn injuries. She urged parents to check children’s bags for fireworks, keep youngsters under adult supervision, and ensure they wear hi‑vis clothing while trick‑or‑treating.
Doherty reminded the public that igniting, throwing or possessing illegal fireworks carries penalties of up to €10,000 in fines and five years’ imprisonment. She asked anyone spotting illegal fireworks or anti‑social behaviour to contact Garda stations on a 24/7 basis: Letterkenny 074‑9167100, Milford 074‑9153060, Buncrana 074‑9320540 or Ballyshannon 071‑9858530.
A resident of east Donegal has renewed a €1,000 reward for information that could prevent vandalism and anti‑social conduct similar to that which occurred two years ago, when tyres were set alight at Dromore Bridge between Killygordon and Crossroads.
