A 65‑year‑old man has been charged with the attempted murder of Dr Kevin Kilbride following a stabbing at an HSE Daycare Medical Clinic in Dublin 8 on Friday morning.
The attack occurred at about 9 am at the clinic on Ushers Island, which provides daily care for people experiencing homelessness and mental health issues. Clinic staff alerted emergency services and local gardaí from Kevin Street station, supported by the Garda Armed Support Unit, responded to the scene.
Dr Kilbride, a doctor in his 50s who works within Dublin’s homeless services, was seriously injured. He received immediate medical assistance from gardaí before being taken by ambulance to St James’s Hospital, where he remains under treatment.
The accused, Fionnbarra Ó Tuama of George’s Hill Apartments, Halston Street, Dublin 7, was arrested at the scene. He appeared before Judge Michele Finan at Dublin District Court on Saturday, where he was remanded in custody as bail must be sought from the High Court. Defence counsel Andrea Callan, instructed by solicitor Patrick Carty, confirmed that legal aid had been granted and that a bail application would be made to the appropriate court. The judge also ordered that Ó Tuama receive psychiatric and medical care while in custody.
Ó Tuama is scheduled to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday and has not yet entered a plea.
