The Ballybofey, Stranorlar & District Historical Society will host a talk by well‑known local shopkeeper Whitby McClay on Monday night.
The free event will be held in Henderson Hall, Stranorlar (postcode F93 XV29) at 8 pm, following the Society’s members’ meeting at 7 pm.
McClay’s presentation will feature memorabilia from his family’s famous shop in Stranorlar and will recount the night their car was stolen in 1920, the same evening that neighbour Dr Henry Johnston’s motorcar – the 47th vehicle registered in County Donegal – was “borrowed” by local IRA volunteers.
After the talk a cup of tea and a chat will be offered, a popular part of the evening. Membership for 2026 is €10, payable on the night, and the latest edition of the Society’s magazine, together with back issues, will be on sale.
Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month. For further information, interested parties can visit the Society’s Facebook page or email bsadhs@gmail.com.
