Buncrana has been named Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town after scoring 412 points in the SuperValu Tidy Towns Awards.

The Inishowen town also topped the Donegal rankings, receiving a gold medal and the Regional Award for North West and West, as well as a runner‑up position in the Waters and Communities category for the same region.

In the Gaeltacht category, Carrigart was the national winner of the Gaeltacht Award and was awarded a gold medal for its outstanding achievement.

Other Donegal towns recognised include Creeslough, which received the Donegal Endeavour Award; Letterkenny, named the second tidiest town in the county; Glenties, the third tidiest town; and gold medals for Raphoe and Moville. Donegal Town and Malin each earned silver medals.

County first‑place towns such as Buncrana receive €1,000, with a gold medal also carrying a €1,000 cash prize. County second‑place towns receive €800 and third‑place €500; a silver medal is worth €800, and the Regional Award includes €2,000.

This year saw a record 936 towns enter the competition, the highest number since the awards began in 1958.
