Ireland squad votes to play Israel in UEFA Nations League match

The Republic of Ireland national football team has voted to proceed with their UEFA Nations League fixture against Israel in Debrecen, Hungary on Sunday.

After a last‑minute cancellation of the morning press conference, the FAI confirmed that the squad met for a four‑hour discussion on the issue. While one player raised concerns about travelling, the coaching staff clarified that only a single player expressed a desire to withdraw, not the rumored five.

Following extensive talks among the players, coaching staff and the association’s executives, a vote was taken and a clear majority opted to fulfil the fixture. FAI chief executive David Courell said the consensus was reached after a two‑hour meeting in Pristina the previous day and reiterated the association’s respect for each individual’s opinion.

Courell stated that the association will honour the squad’s decision and the match will go ahead as originally scheduled, apologising for the delay and thanking supporters for their patience.
