Fianna Fáil marks 100 years of activity in East Clare

Fianna Fáil celebrated a centenary of political and community involvement in the Killaloe Comhairle Ceantair with a special event at Cnoc na Gaoithe, Tulla on Saturday night.

Minister of State at the Department of Marine and Agriculture Timmy Dooley praised the organising committee and highlighted the party’s loyal membership as the key to its long‑term success, noting that members have remained active through both good and difficult times.

Deputy Cathal Crowe commended the extensive research and historical memorabilia displayed, recalling his own election six years ago and describing former Meelick Deputy Eamon O’Cuiv as a “kindred spirit”. He referred to historic events such as the Glenwood Ambush and a photograph of Eamon de Valera training volunteers, linking the early 20th‑century armed groups to the founding of Fianna Fáil.

Clare Comhairle Dáil Ceantair Chairperson Mary Crawford thanked participants and announced that this event is the first of a series planned across the county, with certificates for East Clare councillors to be presented in each municipal district. The series will culminate in a November 22 gathering at the Woodstock Hotel, Ennis, recognising Dáil deputies, senators, MEPs and Presidents elected for Fianna Fáil since 1926.

Crawford also acknowledged the contributions of joint treasurers Ellen Kelly and Sara Noonan, and praised the work of councillor Pat Hayes and other local leaders for strengthening the organisation.
