Former US President Donald Trump praised Congresswoman Haley Stevens for leaving the Democratic Party to back Mike Rogers’s Senate campaign during a rally in Iowa.

Trump welcomed Stevens to the Republican fold, saying her support for Rogers was welcome.

He then turned his remarks to Dr Abdul El‑Sayed, describing the Muslim candidate as a “jihadist” and continuing a series of Islam‑related attacks against the progressive Democratic Senate nominee.

The comments were made at the same event where Stevens endorsed Rogers, the Republican challenger to El‑Sayed.
