Gardaí seek witnesses after two burglaries in Donegal Town
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after two separate burglary attempts in the Orchard Drive area of Donegal Town…

Hasan Ali Gori, 52, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 89‑year‑old Josephine “Josie” Ray of St Joseph’s Park, Nenagh, at the Central Criminal Court in Limerick.
State pathologist Dr Yvonne McCartney testified that Ms Ray died of strangulation and smothering, having sustained two broken neck bones and 44 bruises to her head, neck, face, shoulders, chest, arms and legs. Evidence was presented that bruises on her forearms indicated she fought her attacker.
Ms Ray’s body was discovered on 4 August 2024 in her bed, with her arms raised by her face. Prosecuting counsel Lorcan Connolly highlighted DNA from Mr Gori found on Ms Ray’s right hand and under her fingernails, describing it as a “calling card”.
The prosecution suggested a motive, noting that Mr Gori, an African national, lived in the house with Ms Ray and her daughter Mary, who has an intellectual disability. Neighbour reports indicated prior disputes, including an incident the night before Ms Ray’s death where Mr Gori allegedly threatened to leave the house.
Defence senior counsel Aidan Doyle argued that Mary Ray, described as “very kind, but sometimes unable to control her emotions”, could have been responsible, citing past family conflicts. He urged the jury to acquit Mr Gori if any doubt remained about Mary’s involvement.
