Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has confirmed that tolls on the M50 and Dublin’s Port Tunnel will increase on 1 January.
Motoring expert Ger Herbert told Newstalk’s Lunchtime Live the rise is “aligning the tolls in line with the inflation rate” and that “nearly all of them are going up this time”.
For registered car users the M50 toll will rise by 10 cents, while unregistered users – those without a tag – will see a 20‑cent increase. The southbound Dublin Port Tunnel toll will rise by €1, taking the peak‑time charge to €15.
Herbert described the changes as “quite a substantial rise”, noting that without a tag the cost could reach €4 for a return journey. Regular commuters could therefore see a noticeable addition to their weekly travel expenses.
Dublin commuter Nicky, who travels between Citywest and Blanchardstown, said the increase makes the M50 feel “more like a car park” and that she already pays about €30 a week in tolls.
