Defending Super Bowl champions the Seattle Seahawks suffered their first double‑digit defeat in nearly two years, losing 34‑17 to the Chicago Bears on Monday night.

The loss leaves Seattle at 4‑4 on the season and has coach Mike Macdonald warning of a “high sense of urgency” to improve, particularly on offence where the team managed just 252 yards and went 1 for 11 on third‑down attempts.

Quarterback Sam Darnold, who completed 17 of 34 passes for 188 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, said the problem began on first and second down. Darnold has thrown 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season and leads the league with 29 turnovers since last season.

Despite adding three‑time All‑Pro guard Quenton Nelson in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts and the return of running backs Jadarian Price and Zach Charbonnet from injury, the offensive line appeared out of sync, compounded by the absence of tackle Charles Cross.

Wide receiver Jaxon‑Smith Njigba remained the team’s most reliable playmaker, catching six passes for 118 yards and a 43‑yard touchdown, maintaining his league‑leading receiving totals.

Seahawks’ kicker Jason Myers missed an extra point and had a 33‑yard field‑goal attempt blocked, while defensive tackle Leonard Williams left the game with a stinger.

Seattle host the Arizona Cardinals (3‑5) on Sunday as they look to address the shortcomings highlighted by the Bears defeat.
