Two mothers in the Twin Towns of Donegal have reported finding metal pins concealed inside their children’s Halloween treats.

Stranorlar resident Savannah McDaid discovered four small pins – two in chocolate bars and two in chewy bars – after using a fridge magnet to test her three‑year‑old son Arló’s sweets collected in Srath Aoibhinn and Ard Greine. She said the pins had been pierced through the wrapping and that she discarded most of the candy.

In Ballybofey, Philippa Falls said her son Joshua found a needle‑like pin embedded in a bar while checking confectionery with a magnet. The pin did not attract the magnet, and Joshua noticed it when light reflected off the sweet. He had been trick‑or‑talking in the Blue Cedars, The Cedars and Glenwaters estates.

Both mothers expressed shock and concern, describing the pins as potentially fatal and questioning how many more such items might be hidden in sweets.

Sinn Féin Councillor Dakota Nic Mheanman called the incidents “very worrying and alarming,” urging that parents should not have to fear danger while taking children trick‑or‑treating.
