Democratic contender Abdul El‑Sayed reported a record‑breaking fundraising day on Sunday, taking in $2.4 million following a change in support from fellow Democrat Congresswoman Haley Stevens.

Stevens withdrew her endorsement of El‑Sayed and announced she would back Republican Mike Rogers, who is backed by former President Donald Trump. The endorsement shift came after a New York Times and Siena College poll showed El‑Sayed leading Rogers by 11 points, a margin outside the poll’s error range.

The poll, the latest before the upcoming mid‑term elections, highlighted the importance of the Michigan Senate seat for the Democratic Party’s bid to retain control of the U.S. Senate.

El‑Sayed’s fundraising surge underscores the heightened competition in the race as both parties intensify their campaigns.
