Inishowen Councillor Joy Beard has offered her home to anyone who feels unsafe in a defective block house as Storm Boelo approaches.

Beard, a member of the 100 % Redress Party, criticised the lack of resources and a dedicated emergency plan for owners of defective concrete block homes and mobile homes awaiting rebuilds. She said the council’s warnings about “damage to already weakened structures” fail to identify specific assistance for those households.

The councillor urged residents to look after themselves and neighbours, especially older people and those living alone, and to make safe arrangements while conditions allow. She added that families remain trapped by delays, testing, technical reviews and unaffordable costs.

Beard said she has repeatedly called for a clear severe‑weather plan with emergency accommodation, and invited anyone who feels unsafe to contact her directly for shelter, offering a warm welcome and a cup of tea if power remains.
